As well as being the owner and founder of JAM, Joe is dedicated to imparting expert guitar lessons, helping young kids and young bands create art and build confidence through music. He is a friendly and encouraging teacher who helps to inspire students to learn through all different types of music; modern, classics or rocking out, in a safe and supportive environment. Students don't need their own guitars, a guitar will be provided on the private lessons.

How do guitar lessons work at JAM?

Based right in the heart of Tunbridge Wells at United Reformed church, providing the optimal acoustics, Joe will welcome you to a trial guitar lesson for either yourself or your child. We teach kids from the age of 5+, teens and adults.
Joe will start from the basics; beginning by getting to know you, his student, understanding what level you're currently at, your playing style, what you want to achieve, and other important stuff, like who your favourite artist is at the moment. By understanding your musical vibe, we can help you become the musician you want to be in our courses. He will then be able to properly offer guitar tips and guitar tricks for acoustic and electric guitars, how to hold your guitar pick and lots more, to immediately make you feel more comfortable with your instrument.
We pretty much took all sheet music and threw it out the window. Why? Not because we don't believe in music theory, because we believe that the best way of learning music theory comes from good intuition which helps build your ear as a musician, you learn by doing, and getting a feel for your instrument, this keeps kids really excited and allows adults a relaxed and enjoyable step away from the desk! Gradually over time, as you or your child improves, we'll recommend putting them into a band to play alongside their peers and new potential JAM friends, to really put what they've learnt into practise and have fun.
